Weeks after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to rename its streaming service Max back to its former name, HBO Max, Paramount Global said, “Hold my cord!’ Like the spin of a buffering wheel, the company has completed the circle and renamed its ad-free Paramount+ with Showtime tier to Paramount+ Premium.
Paramount+ rolled out its rebrand of the Paramount+ Premium plan to Paramount+ with SHOWTIME back in 2023. The rebrand helped emphasize and bring SHOWTIME’s premium content to the platform. As part of the move, the company sunset the SHOWTIME app and rebranded the SHOWTIME TV Network as Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, which confused many viewers and subscribers at the time.
When the merger officially launched on June 27, 2023, Paramount+ increased its pricing. At the time, the Essential plan increased by $1, and the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan rose by $2.
Although it now has a new name (but old name), Paramount Premium is still ad-free and includes all the same features as before. For $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year, the subscription gives you access to SHOWTIME originals, over 40,00 episodes and movies, live sports, the ability to download content, your local live CBS feed, and you can stream on up to three devices. Plus, you can try it for free for seven days.
In a statement on the support page of its website, Paramount+ says: On June 23, we updated the name of our ad-free plan from Paramount+ with SHOWTIME to Paramount+ Premium. Since we recently introduced a sampling of SHOWTIME programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers. SHOWTIME programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service! In addition, the name of the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME network on your cable, satellite, or live TV streaming service (like Hulu with Live TV) will not be changing.
Since its launch as CBS All Access back in 2014, Paramount+ has grown to be one of the most popular streaming services in the world. The platform added 1.5 million subscribers during the first quarter of 2025. Additionally, the streamer saw improvements in churn and user watch time and is expected to reach domestic profitability in 2025.
This year, Paramount+ is going all-in on its original programming. The third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on Thursday, July 17. The sci-fi series was recently renewed for a fifth and final season. Michael C. Hall is also returning to Paramount+ as Dexter Morgan in the SHOWTIME Original series, Dexter: Resurrection, streaming on July 11. Additionally, Paramount+ is reuniting Tony and Ziva in their own NCIS spinoff series this fall.
